Abstract

This study was intended to determine variance components, and heritability of several yield components in a
soybean population at different rates of phosphorous (P) fertilizer on peat soil. A field experiment was conducted by
completely randomized block design with three replications. Six genotypes of soybeans including Malabar, Willis,
Kipas Putih, KM11AB, KM13ED and Kaba were grown in a plot of 2 m x 3 m and fertilized by three levels of P fertilizer;
ie. 0, 25 kg and 50 kg P2O5 per ha. Traits observed were filled pod numbers, seed number plant, seed weight per plant,
100-grain weight, oil and protein content in the seed. In general there was no significant effect of P fertilizer levels on
all traits observed in all genotypes. Significant genetic variances were detected for number of filled pods and seed per
plant, seed weight per plant, 100-grain weight, grain yield, oil content and protein content. Heritability ranged from
0,54 to 0.99 and was significantly different from zero for pod number per plant, seed number per plant, seed weight per
plant, 100-grain weight, seed oil and protein content.
